Dennis
Richie and Ken Thompson's design of the first
version of UNIX on a PDP-7 marked the beginning
of a long relationship between DIGITAL and UNIX
that continues to the present. In the early 1970s
UNIX was ported to a PDP-11 and in 1983, DIGITAL
developed ULTRIX, its own version of the popular
operating system. Here, Richie and Thompson work
