Abstract:
Franklin Dean is one of the founders of the Computer Control Company (3C), a minicomputer manufacturer. In this interview, Dean's reviews his early education and World War II naval career - his first introduction to digital engineering and computers. At the end of the war, Dean joined Raytheon, where he worked with the other founders of 3C as part of the group that designed and built the RAYDAC computer. After the success of the RAYDAC, a group of engineers left Raytheon to found the Computer Control Company. Dean discusses the roles of 3Cs founders, and reviews various products the company developed, especially the circuit building blocks known as the PACs. When 3C was acquired by Honeywell, Dean and other 3C founders left to found their own venture capitalist firm Financial Technical Assistance (FinTech).
