Abstract:
Tu Chen’s background included working with Bell Telephone, IBM, Northrop and Xerox PARC. After extensive work in developing various magnetic recording technologies, he started his own company, which became known as Komag. At Komag, he pioneered new types of production equipment and magnetic disk materials, and became a pioneer in the successful production of the sputtered magnetic disks which are now generally used in magnetic disk drives.
