Abstract:
The IBM 3380, announced in June, 1980, and eventually shipped in October, 1981, for mainframe applications, encountered many difficult development problems, but eventually became one of IBM’s all-time highest cash producers. Panel members played a key role in solving difficult problems with recording heads, disks, motors, etc., and in preparing the drive models with increased capacity which were introduced through the 1980s.
