Abstract:
As IBM became dominant with the introduction of System/360 and System/370, it established product standards for additional capacity in 14 inch disk pack drives with the 2314 in 1966 and the 3330 models in the early 1970s. Panel members held key roles in development of magnetic recording heads, disks, and controllers for these disk drive systems. Some of them also participated in the emergence of “plug compatible” disk drives from independent disk drive manufacturers, from which the modern disk drive industry evolved.
